In this Course, you will learn:
- Introduction to Yoga [and Yoga Therapy] for Children: Understanding the principles and practices of yoga and yoga therapy tailored for children.
- Child Development: Insights into the physical, mental, emotional, and social development stages of children.
Adapted Asanas (Poses): Learning yoga poses suitable for children with variations and modifications for different ages and abilities. - Breathing Techniques: Teaching appropriate breathing exercises and techniques for stress relief, focus, and relaxation.
- Mindfulness and Meditation: Introducing mindfulness and meditation practices suitable for children.
- Yoga Philosophy for Children: Simplified teachings of yoga philosophy tailored to children's understanding.
- Anatomy and Physiology: Basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology relevant to children's yoga.
- Classroom Management: Strategies for managing a children's yoga class, including maintaining discipline and engagement.
- Teaching Methodologies: Techniques for effective teaching, including storytelling, games, and music, to engage children in yoga practice.
- Special Needs, Specialty Populations and Inclusivity: Understanding how to adapt yoga for children with special needs, differentiated learning for multiple intelligences, and adaptability to all abilities to create diverse learning experiences and inclusive environments[, while using a trauma informed lens.]
- Props and Equipment: Instruction of how to use props and equipment to bring the material to life for students.
- Ethics and Professionalism: Guidelines for ethical conduct and professionalism in teaching yoga to children.
- Practicum and Observation: Opportunities to observe and practice teaching yoga sessions for children under supervision of the advisors.
- Sample Class Lessons: Opportunity to create your own lessons, as well as receive 10 sample class lesson packs upon completion of the certification requirements to get your kids yoga journey started.
Successful completion of this course includes:
- A Certificate of Completion to become a Registered Children's Yoga Teacher "RCYT" with Yoga Alliance
Concurrently:
- 50 Therapeutic Electives in PYI's Yoga Therapy Certification Program, or:
- 50 APD's with IAYT (Subject to approval)
Requirements for Certificate of Completion
- Completion of coursework, practicum, quiz and periodic reading assignments and assessments to obtain certification as a Children's Yoga Teacher designation, along with 30 hours of required teaching to children.

Meet Camelia (Mimi) Felton, the founder and owner of Mimi's Yoga Kids. She is a BYTA (Black Yoga Teacher Alliance) + Yoga Alliance RYT-500, C-IAYT, E-RYT-200, YACEP, a KAY (Kidding Around Yoga) Certified Kids Yoga Teacher, a Certified Meditation Instructor, a YBB (Yoga Behind Bars) certified Trauma-Informed Yoga Instructor, a certified Vibrational Sound Therapy Practitioner & a Reiki ll Practitioner. She is currently a yoga therapy candidate at Prema Yoga Institute. Mimi started Mimi's Yoga Kids in 2018 after realizing the many benefits of doing yoga with her young grandson. She knew that this was something that kids and their families needed. She couldn't find what she wanted so she decided to create it! She currently has a community yoga/wellness space in Peoplestown, a community in Atlanta, Georgia. With the support of amazing partners she offers free yoga/wellness practices to the community and surrounding areas. She is always excited to share the many gifts of yoga with children and their families. As she keeps learning and growing she will share her knowledge with the world to cultivate awareness on how these wonderful practices can teach all of us, especially our children, MINDFULNESS, INNER PEACE, MEDITATION & IMAGINATION! She is eager to support wellness professionals in their journal to learn and provide yoga therapy practices for children.
Larissa R. Noto, JD, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, RCYT, RPYT, YACEP

Larissa is the owner of The Lovely Little Lotus and the creator of Kids Yoga Storytime. Larissa has been practicing yoga and meditation for 28 years, and teaching yoga, meditation and mindfulness for the past 10 years. She took her first class in 1998, while fulfilling a gym requirement in college. Then she became hooked -- not just by the physical practice, but also with the way yoga helped her body, mind and soul feel both on and off the mat. She is a former secondary school teacher and lawyer, turned 500 hour Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500, YACEP), 95 hour Registered Children's Yoga Teacher (RCYT) with Childlight Education Company and 85 hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) with Childlight Education Company and 1000+ Hours as a Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with Prema Yoga Institute.
Larissa has taught and trained all over the world in various yoga modalities, with a specialty in trauma informed movement that is accessible to all ages and abilities. She “retired" from the law in 2019 and is now Director of YTT and Family Programming at The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem, as well as a teacher, trainer and content contributor with Childlight Education Company (NH), Mindful Child Initiative (PA), Jillian Pransky Yoga (International), and West End Yoga. Her work has been featured in MSN, NPR, PBS Kids, Yoga Love Magazine, Lehigh Valley Style, Outside+/Yoga Journal, and more. When she is not sharing her love of yoga with others, she is a wife, mom of 3 boys, children’s book author, professor and special needs advocate.
